How Can You Use Renewable Energy Generation?

There are many forms of renewable energy available, but not all of them are feasible on small scales. For example it is a large operation to use tidal power, and most other forms of hydropower. Even using wind turbines for your home is a challenge and not many people have the right conditions for it.

The main forms of renewable energy generation are:

• Solar Energy – Using the light energy from the sun.
• Hydropower – Using the energy of moving water.
• Geothermal Energy – Using the energy stored as heat in the Earth.
• Wind Energy – Using the energy generated by moving air.
• Biomass Energy – Using the energy stored in plants.

You can use most of these forms of energy in your home. For example you could get a biomass boiler, burning plants to heat the water in your home. This is a renewable form of energy so long as more are planted at the same rate as they are used, or dead plant matter is used. We offer 4 different installations however, which can be grouped into two categories: solar installations and heat pump installations.

Solar Installation

There are two ways that you can use solar energy, either to create electricity or else to heat water.

PV Solar Panels – Photovoltaic solar cells create electricity from the light of the sun. When you get an installation of this kind you will be significantly decreasing the amount of electricity you will need from your conventional supplier, and you'll also be able to make money from the feed in tariff.

Solar Thermal Systems – Instead of creating electricity, a solar thermal system uses the sun's light to heat water.  This will significantly decrease the amount of energy your boiler has to use to heat the water for your home.  This will be eligible for the renewable heat incentive to make it more cost effective.

Heat Pump Installation

One of the best ways to heat your home through renewable energy generation is to have a heat pump installation.  We offer two kinds:

Air Source Heat Pump – This is the leas expensive kind of heat pump, but it is also not quite as consistent.  It uses the latent heat that can be found in the air, but it will work even in winter.

Ground Source Heat Pump – The temperature underground does not change very much, making this the more consistent type of heat pump.  However it is a more complicated and expensive installation.
